DIY Recycling Bin
Homemade recycling system built from a 60L plastic box. Practical and aesthetically superior solution for separating household waste into three categories.
About the Project
This DIY project, developed in January 2023, consisted of creating a more attractive and functional homemade recycling bin. The goal was to replace the previous system (a cardboard box with 3 bags) with a more durable and aesthetically pleasing solution.

Design and Functionality
Waste Separation
The recycling bin was adapted for three waste categories:
- Unsorted - Non-recyclable waste
- Paper and Cardboard - Paper materials
- Plastic and Packaging - Plastic and metal materials
Bag System
- Three rectangular sections cut into the box
- Each section accommodates an individual plastic bag
- Easy access to deposit waste
- Simple to remove and change bags
Design Decisions
Glass Exclusion
I chose not to include a section for glass because:
- Glass bottles are rarely stored at home for recycling
- Usually taken directly to public recycling points
- Allows focus on most frequently used categories
Advantages over Previous System
